We are now aware of the harmful effects of the pollution we cause as a society. This awareness has started the trend towards ‘going green,’ but when we really look at the relationship of eco-friendly buildings on the ecosystems they inhabit, it is easy to see that it isn’t really all that green. This casual justification for the destruction of vital ecosystems, to build ‘green’ buildings, is no more than a pat on the back for those who want to feel like environmental justice warriors. But this need for justification pervades more than just ecological issues. When closely examining our destructive relationship towards nature, we can see the parallels to the cycles of domination, awareness, and justification deeply rooted in all aspects of our society.
